Yi Lin and I found each other when we were both going through infertility treatments and blogging about our experiences. Since then, we have grown to be friends and she has also seen two tiny embryos blossom to become her lovely daughters. Please welcome Yi Lin to the community!

When the practice of blogging first came about, I never thought then that I’d be one to spill and spiel on the Internet for all and sundry to read. I had never considered myself a good nor interesting writer, much less a blogger. After all, why would anybody care enough about my life to want to read about it?

It all changed in 2009. Not long before that, my husband and I had decided to try for children. But I got distracted by the grand idea of doing an around-the-world trip and threw a huge spanner that thwarted our baby-making plans. I blame Tony and Maureen Wheeler, founders of Lonely Planet, for that.

Well, after doing some number-crunching, we realised that we couldn’t afford to jet around the world so we settled for the more austere option of backpacking across the Americas instead. To document our epic adventure, we started our travel blog, GO, to keep everybody at home updated on our whereabouts.

Over those months on the go, I gradually felt less self-conscious about sharing my thoughts and feelings online, and started to enjoy blogging more and more.

When we returned to Singapore in 2010, I Love Children invited us to share our experience of starting a family as bloggers on Maybebaby. Our journey to parenthood was not an easy one and the last 3 years have been riddled with various types of fertility tests and treatment. It wasn’t easy sharing our rawest emotions on such a personal topic, but many women have left notes saying that my writing has given them comfort and inspiration in their own quest for children, and that is what has kept me – and my blog – going for 3 years straight.

I am now mum to two precious little girls: Colette – tiny and immensely precocious at 21-months old; and baby Claire, who turns 2 months old this June. Our parenthood journey continues on Maybebaby and now, on bubsicles too.

Welcome to the community.
