As much as I think that I am Fabulously Gorgeous, the reality is, I look and feel pretty rundown most of the time. Like this.
Yes, I look like this on a regular basis. And yes, my husband took this photo. And yes, he does not sleep in the living room. I am a kind and gentle wife.
Anyhow. See, some lucky women can survive on very little sleep and still look fresh. Unfortunately, I am NOT one of those women. When I don’t have enough sleep, IT SHOWS. The eye bags are bulging, the eyes are red and the lines are especially deep. My face, the TRAITOR.
But rather than live in the past, I have decided that I need to have as many tools in my arsenal as possible to fight back. That’s right. TAKE THAT, EYEBAGS! AND YOU, CROW’S FEET!
Here are some of the things that keep me alive and looking alive.
Ayyyyyy! These are the most perfect tools every woman should have in her bag. A super stylish pair of sunglasses can cover every single damned flaw, including those Prada eyebags.
Edit: Husband would like to point out that the sunglasses were a gift from him. Oh fine.
Since it’s not cool to wear your sunnies indoors (seriously uncool), you’ll need some backup help to patch those eyebags. A good concealer will give you very good mileage and camouflage any flaw. My choice of weapon is the MAC Select Moisturecover. It’s pretty affordable and a tube lasts almost forever.
3. Bright lipstick
I have, erm, phases when it comes to lipsticks. I started out with ZERO love for lipsticks, preferring glosses. That was clearly during my younger days when I was powered by the fountain of youth. And then age crept up on me and suddenly, I looked as colourless as a ghost, with ginormous eyebags to boot. Not cool. That was when I went into the bright red lipstick phase. Currently, the colour of the moment is pink. As in PINK! that shouts I’M SO BRIGHT THAT YOU WILL IGNORE THOSE EYEBAGS!
Some lipsticks currently on my rotation list: MAC’s Sheen Supreme in Insanely It, NARS’ Schiap, Bobbi Brown’s Hollywood Red and Chanel’s Rouge Allure in Emotive #68 (seems to have gone off production).
A dash of red on the apples of your cheeks can do WONDERS. While I try my best not to look like the backside of a baboon, I have to admit that I do love having artificially rosy cheeks.
PS A friend of mine introduced Everyday Minerals to me and I have been hooked since then. It’s so easy on the pocket too!
5. Eye cream and sunblock
No self-respecting vainpot will do without either of these two items. They are absolute essentials! I am not going into detail on why you need sunblock but I haven’t lived without mine since I turned 19.
I usually don’t bother with store-bought skincare products and have been using those prescribed by my dermatologist. They probably cost less than the likes of SKII and are working perfectly for me.
So these are the things that I swear by. If you have any to recommend, please share them here!
