Last week, we received an invitation to meet The Gruffalo.

Yup, you read right. We met the Gruffalo. And it was a pretty amazing experience!

As part of KidsFest 2015, Julie Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s beloved book will be brought to life and we were lucky enough to score a preview. At the event, which was held at the Volvo showroom, we were treated to a story-telling session, popcorn (I had TWO bags of it, yum), cotton candy (TWO sticks of it and NONE for the toddler!) and crafts.

But the best part of it? Why, meeting The Gruffalo in the flesh, of course!

Aidan is a huge fan of Julie Donaldson’s books and needless to say, he was super chuffed at meeting The Gruffalo. Initially, I was a tad worried that he might be scared of the life-sized mascot but he proved me wrong. In fact, he was intrigued and thrilled to be so up close and personal with it. Zac, on the other hand, was clearly more interested in catching his beauty sleep.

Ah, parenthood. This is the part that makes you feel like all the lack of sleep is worth it, when your child surprises you. In a good way. (Not in a poopy diaper sort of way.)

There was this one hilarious moment, when the Gruffalo was making his way through the crowd. He approached a little girl, who promptly burst into tears! As it happened, I turned around to see what the commotion was and caught the eye of the actor playing the Gruffalo. He had on a sheepish OOPS face and I burst into laughter as he hurriedly made a hasty exit. Too funny!

There are quite a few shows running during the next season of KidsFest, which takes place in January and February next year. I don’t know about you but we are looking forward to catching The Gruffalo and another all-time favourite: The Snail and The Whale.

Circa May 2013

Do check out the schedule of shows to see if anything catches your eye. Tickets are available now. Have fun!
